Dr Micheal McAuliffe graduated with honours from Cork University Dental School and Hospital in 2005. He subsequently worked in Edinburgh for three years, spending one year in general practice and two years in a hospital setting, in an oral and maxillofacial surgery unit.
While in Edinburgh he gained his Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He then returned home to Ireland where he spent one year in the oral and maxillofacial surgery unit in the Mid-Western Regional Hospital Limerick. Following this Dr McAuliffe returned to the Cork University Dental School and Hospital where began a three year specialist training programme in oral surgery.
During this time he completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning from UCC and went on to gain his Fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (in Oral Surgery) at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. His doctoral research involved the detailed characterisation of pain following lower third molar surgery, in both the immediate and delayed post-operative phases. He graduated with honours, receiving his Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry in Oral Surgery in February 2013.
